April Weird Question Winners!

P.T. Hylton · May 7, 2014 ·

Here are the winners of April’s Weird Questions. All the people on this list have won a digital copy of John L. Monk’s awesome “Quantum Leap meets Dexter” Dark Fantasy novel Kick.

If your name is on the below list, please email me at pt @ pthylton.com and provide me with the email address that is attached to your Amazon account. I will then gift you the book.

On to the winners!

Teleportation – Damacloed for his comment:

“Central London and the west coast of India. I like working and hanging out in a vibrant city with a bit of history and culture, but I’d need a bolt-hole to wind down. Nowhere better than Goa/Kerala for great weather, a slower pace of life, fantastic beaches and amazing food. ”

One Song to Save Humanity – Brijwhiz for his comment:

“I would go with the ninth symphony. even if they do not like it I can hear it one last time before death 🙂 that or My Favourite Things by John Coltrane.”

Super Google It – Steve E. for his comment:

“Definitely the modern edition, no contest. The real question is would I use it to help the world or help myself. I’m thinking I first use it almost strictly for personal gain with the plan to become a Bruce Wayne-Batman type figure and stop dastardly deeds before they happen.
But would wielding such power corrupt myself into becoming a super villain myself?”

Forced to Live in an 80s Sitcom – Pipes for his comment:

“Definitely Mr. Belvedere….despite my fascination with being a butler, rocking in that world would be so much better then the crazy cousins even if they do live in Chicago! ”

Congrats to the winners!

If you didn’t win, you can still check out the first 15 pages of Kick abolutely free here. It is currently a Quarter Finalist for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. If you do check it out, be sure to leave a review.

Weird Question news!

I am taking May and June off from posting Weird Questions. I am currently in the midst of writing the first draft of A Place Without Shadows, the sequel to Regulation 19. Believe it or not, writing these Weird Questions drains a bit of my creative energy , and I need to put all my mojo toward writing the novel. Writing the Weird Questions is a fun distraction during the revision and editing phases though, so I hope to be back with more Weird Questions and more chances to win another great indie book in July.

Forced to Live in an ’80s Sitcom

P.T. Hylton · Apr 23, 2014 ·

You’ve committed a crime. Even worse, you’ve been caught. The judge in your case is clearly a fan of wacky ’80s sitcoms and has given you two bizzare choices:

Option 1 – Mr. Belvedere: You will be trained as a classical butler. You will then be assigned to work for one randomly selected suburban middle-class family for five years.

Option 2 – Perfect Strangers: You will spend the next five years with two cousins you have never met. One of the cousins is super naive and optimistic, and he has a had time understanding the intricacies of modern life in a first world nation. The other cousin is super selfish and curmugeonly. You will live in a small two bedroom apartment with these cousins (you get the couch) and work alongside them in an antique store.

Which option do you choose?

This month the commenter who gets the most ‘likes’ each week will win a digital copy of Kick by John L. Monk. Kick is a great book. Some have called it a cross between Quantum Leap and Dexter, and I think that’s an apt description.

In full disclosure, I know John, and he has written about my book on his website. However, I wouldn’t be giving this book away if I didn’t love it. Check out the 51 5-star reviews on Amazon. Note: You will need an Amazon account in order for me to get you the book if you win.

Super Google It

P.T. Hylton · Apr 16, 2014 ·

You (and you alone) will be given access to a new search engine: Super Google. You must select one of two versions:

  1. Super Google ‘Modern Era Edition’ – This search engine will allow you to search for anything (and I do mean anything) that happened between January 1st 1944 and yesterday at 11:59 PM (it is updated each day at midnight with the previous day’s events). You can search for ANYTHING that took place during that time frame, and you will get the results with 100% accuracy. Some examples might be: What was Lee Harvey Oswald thinking the moment he shot JFK? Which company is planning to release a secret new product that will likely cause their stock to skyrocket? Who commited that unsolved murder I just heard about on the news? What did Sally really think of our date last night?
  2.  Super Google ‘Old School Edition’ – This version will allow you to search for anything from the dawn of time through December 31st 1943. Again, this is 100% accurate. If you can think of it, you can Super Google it. Some example searches might include:  What the most interesting thing Jesus said that his pals did not write down? What happened to the Roanoke Colony? What is the most valuable undiscovered object buried in the ground and where is it located?

Which version of Super Google would you choose?

One Song to Save Humanity

P.T. Hylton · Apr 9, 2014 ·

Note: This week’s weird question is inspired by Matt Singer’s classic Critic Survey entry, One Movie to Save Humanity.

You discover that aliens plan to destroy the Earth. However, these aliens are not without compassion. They will allow you to play them one single piece of music before they make their final decision. What song do you play them in order to prove the value of humanity. (No pressure.)

Teleportation

P.T. Hylton · Apr 2, 2014 ·

Congratulations! You have just been given a teleportation device. This device connects two distant locations via portals.

Important points to know about this device:

  1. Once the portals are set and activated, they can never be moved.
  2. You may place the portals anywhere on planet Earth. Public or private property, it makes no difference.
  3. No person or item can pass through the portals unless you grant him/her/it access.

Where will you put the two portals?
